Priority is placed on designing and building cross-functional systems that fit into your existing facilities and processes to attain improvements with as little disruption as possible with a “do-it-right-the-first-time” approach.

Our consultants begin with a Process and Packaging Performance Evaluation, including problem discussion and analysis followed by an in-plant audit to gather concrete data by assessing your equipment and operations. From this, we create a Leti-tech Solutions Report that highlights our findings and provides a high-level look at potential solutions. Although some improvements may require line or tooling changes, others can sometimes be accomplished with minimal alterations. The report also outlines a complete action plan which we can seamlessly manage for on-time implementation.

Mr. Chips Pickles benefits from new Leti-tech automation system

Bay View Foods in Pinconning, Michigan began brining cucumbers in 1946 and has since become one of North America’s largest briners of pickling cucumbers. Through a commitment to first-quality produce and continuous technology innovation they’ve mastered their popular lines of pickles, peppers and relish.  The bottom line: Bay View Foods has earned its motto “we know our pickles.”

Serving private labels, restaurants and other institutional customers, production lines and business demands are continually growing, and the company routinely explores ways to save cost, improve operational efficiencies,  and become more environmentally friendly without jeopardizing the high quality and value for which they’re known. That’s when the pickle experts turned to Letica’s Leti-tech Services, experts in automation engineering, to optimize the operations of Mr. Chips Inc, the Bay View Foods subsidiary that processes fresh cucumbers into the final pickle product for distribution.

“We’ve used Letica’s rigid packaging containers since 2010 and were quite satisfied, so we decided to learn more about their automation services,” explains Gary Vermeesch, VP of Operations at Mr. Chips Inc. “Additionally, we are like-minded companies that are locally owned, so we met with Leti-tech’s rep and were very impressed by his knowledge and the competitive pricing and services offered.” 

After conducting a Leti-tech Process and Packaging Performance Evaluation, Leti-tech and Mr. Chips identified two key areas for cost savings: automating a current packaging machine and designing a brine recapture system. This was particularly attractive given Mr. Chips, much like Letica, is focused on process improvements and becoming more environmentally friendly.

The Leti-tech team then went on to design, fabricate and install this custom automation equipment for their packaging line.

The new automation systems definitely achieved our targeted goals; delivering a sustainable ROI that continues today. The Leti-tech Services team shepherded the automation project from initial identification and solution design, straight through to completion. 

This takes a weight off plant managers and allows them to stay focused on their regular daily responsibilities. With the new modification in place, Mr. Chips has improved its packaging line and is continuing to fill orders more environmentally friendly.
